Calavon veloroute, via Venaissia and new greenway between Thor and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the network of bikes is developing, at the initiative of the department of Vaucluse, to make the little queen, the star of Vaucluse.
The Véloroute du Calavon crosses the Luberon from Cavaillon to Apt, on the old Cavaillon-Volx railroad, and continues in the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Although the majority of the route is set up in the Vaucluse, a few sections are in progress to ensure optimal continuity on the European Eurovéloroute 8 (EV8), connecting Spain to Cyprus.
Two sections added
Between December 2023 and October 2024, two sections were added to Cavaillon for € 891,000. The first, of 550 meters, extends the cycle route from the RD 973 to the avenue des Arcoules, pending a future passage under the railway still under study. The second, 700 meters, connects rue Pierre-Fabre (near the Ismaël Dauphin high school) at the Melon roundabout, facilitating access to Bouches-du-Rhône. These arrangements offer more fluid, secure and clearly identifiable routes for cyclists and pedestrians, while avoiding intense road traffic areas. A well-defined route now bypasses the roundabout to the Durance bridge.
Via Venaissia: an additional 15 km for a rapprochement with the Calavon cycle route
Soon, Via Venaissia, which already connects Orange to Velleron, will be extended by 15 km to allow a direct connection with the Calavon cycle route via Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Robion. The work, started in the fall of 2023, concerns a first section of 4.1 km between Velleron and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, at a cost of € 330,000 excl. Among these developments, 2.6 km are dedicated to a secure greenway, while the rest is on the way shared, with a speed limitation at 30 km/h. The Chemin des Nesquières, in Velleron, was reclassified green by reserving car traffic only for local residents. The width of the road has been standardized at 3.20 m and the renovated coating. In 2025, ground markings and signage will finalize the layout. All the work on the Calavon veloroute, as on Via Venaissia, are funded by the European Fund (ERDF), by the State and the South-Paca region.
A new greenway connects Thor and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
An 800-meter new greenway now connects L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to Thor, along the RD 901 to offer a secure route to cyclists, away from road traffic. Carried out in coordination between the Department and the Community of Pays-des-Sorgues communes-Monts de Vaucluse, it connects the cycle paths of the two municipalities between the La Cigalière industrial zone and the Pôle de activity La Petite Marine. The work, started in August 2024 for a total cost of 1.35 million euros, includes a colored sandblasted concrete coating to enhance the site, a separation wall with the road, and the repair of the asphalt. Floor markings and signage will be finalized in early 2025. This project benefited from co-financing with the State.
