Until January 26, 2025, reading is in the spotlight at the Occitanie Youth Book Festival, an event dedicated to families and young people passionate about literature. Focused on the theme “Who are these heroes?”, this year the festival explores the figure of heroes in children's literature and offers to discover the work of invited authors and illustrators.
Younger children will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of creative workshops. Saturday morning, the illustrator Mayana Itoïz will transport children aged 5 to 10 into the offbeat world of “The Underpants Festival”, where they will be able to draw, color and create a collective fresco. In the afternoon, the “Méli-mélo” workshop of heroes of Véronique Barthes will invite children to reinvent iconic characters by mixing heads, bodies and legs, for a result that is as funny as it is imaginative. The pop-up workshops will allow children aged 7 to 10 to design unique 3D cards, perfect for giving free rein to their creativity.
Sunday, time for illustration from 10:30 a.m. with Marion Puechwhich will guide children in creating fun ghosts, and comic strips, thanks to Margo Renardwho will accompany the young participants in the creation of a mini-comic strip from 2:30 p.m.
-Place for spectacles on Saturday afternoon, “The Léon Plouhinec mystery” will combine paper cutouts, homemade special effects and music to tell the touching and incredible story of a lighthouse keeper.
Sunday morning, “À la page” will offer a true declaration of love for books in a poetic and humorous setting. Finally, “The Stinking Tribe”, presented on Sunday afternoon, will offer an ecological and humanist fable tinged with fantasy and play, accessible from 6 years old.
Of the debates will allow the public to explore themes that directly relate to the world of young readers: Saturday, at 2:30 p.m., Maria Poblete will explore the role of inspiring figures in the youth collection, “Those who said NO”. At 4 p.m., Gilles Bachelet and Victor Hussenot will share their thoughts on the heroes who have marked their work. Sunday, at 11 a.m., the 2025 Children's Book Prize will highlight the literary favorites of young people. At 4 p.m., a round table will bring together Margo Renard, Marion Puech and Séverine Duchesne for insight into the richness of regional creation. You will be able to meet the invited authors and illustrators, chat with them and have their works signed throughout the festival.
