A fire ravaged a pig farm in Froidos, in the Meuse, on Wednesday evening, mobilizing around thirty firefighters. 280 animals were saved, however more than 400 pigs perished in the disaster.

An unpleasant surprise on Wednesday evening around 5:30 p.m., for a couple of breeders from the Meuse, whose pig farm located in Froidos, near Verdun, was the victim of a fire. Around thirty firefighters and eight fire engines were involved in the fire. The fire was brought under control at 7:40 p.m. according to the CODIS 55 room manager.280 animals were saved out of the 720 on the farm“. They were all in a 1500m² building.

According to our colleagues from the Republican East: “It is a smoldering fire, which gives off a lot of smoke. He would have eaten in the room nicknamed “the soup”, that is to say the place where the animal food is prepared. A room adjoining the one where the pigs are located, itself adjoining a garage which is adjoining an unoccupied residential area.

The dead animals were caused by asphyxiation according to initial findings yesterday evening.
