Senegal is in mourning after the death of Madior Diouf, a prominent intellectual and politician, on the night of January 22 to 23.
The announcement was made by President Moustapha Niasse. Born in 1939 in Fimela, in the Fatick region, Madior Diouf was a notable personality in national history, contributing both to the academic field and to the Senegalese political scene.
Professor of literature at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Madior Diouf was also a committed political actor. Founder and leader of the National Democratic Rally (RND), he was inspired by the thoughts of Cheikh Anta Diop to propose an alternative democratic vision for Senegal. His political career was punctuated by significant moments: Minister of Culture under Moustapha Niasse, he was also a candidate in the 1993 presidential election and re-elected as leader of the RND in 2008.
