Hydrogen has its part to play in the energy transition in Switzerland, but for this to happen, an ecosystem must be put in place and a market created. This is in essence the message that emanated from a conference on the issue which was held Thursday in Morges. Switzerland, due to a lack of public support, has fallen behind in the deployment of this energy card compared to its neighboring countries, where the State has been more present.
Hydrogen is the energy vector of all the promises. The one whose density promises miracles. Jean-Marc Thévenaz, boss of Swiss easyJet, present in Morges, noted for example that with twenty tonnes of this molecule (we are in fact talking about dihydrogen, composed of two hydrogen atoms), we can make a plane fly to Australia from Switzerland, while with the same weight in kerosene, the device would have to land in New York while with twenty tons of batteries, we can barely connect Geneva to Bern.
