“We would like to inform you that the X accounts of the Saint-Lô and Coutances hospital centers are now closed. This platform no longer corresponds to the values that we hold within our establishments. »
This announcement was published on the Facebook page of the Saint-Lô and Coutances hospital centers, in Manche, Thursday January 23, 2025.
A departure that is part of a movement
In France, many other structures, such as the newspaper West France or even The World, but also universities and schools, Departments and Regions, and even the City of Paris, have recently left the social network X (formerly Twitter).
A decision which follows the purchase of the network, by the controversial billionaire Elon Musk, and his arrival at the White House, alongside Donald Trump.
The lack of moderation of the content published there is particularly blamed.
-« HelloQuitteX, a platform to migrate to other networks
In France, this movement is supported by “HelloQuitteX”, a French collective committed against disinformation and led by a researcher and a team of developers from National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
He criticizes the network for having become “dangerous for democracies”.
This collective provides a platform allowing people to leave “X” and join other networks, such as BlueSky and Mastodon.
The Coutances and Saint-Lô hospital centers have not announced that they are migrating to one of these two platforms but have indicated that they will continue to communicate on their websites, but also on the social networks Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
