An anomaly which has few consequences on Earth. Forecast.

Exceptional cold

The polar vortex has been out of control for several days and a cold wave is currently afflicting Quebec. In certain areas of northwestern Quebec, the mercury dropped to -40°C. As for cold anomalies, they are almost widespread in North America. Indeed, several American states are experiencing the descent of Arctic air. Freezing temperatures are recorded even in the south of the country. Despite this strong cold surge over a vast area, the situation is exceptional. On a global scale, warm anomalies reign, such as in Alaska, Antarctica and Asia.

Record heat

Heat records continue at the end of January on a global scale. On January 19, 2025, a daily mark was set with 13.30°C. Obviously, when the Northern Hemisphere is in winter, the average temperature recorded is lower. As shown in this graph, on this date in 2024, the Earth recorded a record, which was shattered again this year.

Record year

We recently announced: the Earth has never been so hot since the pre-industrial era in 2024. Last year, an anomaly of almost 1.60 ° C was recorded compared to the level of 1850, so before the advent of fossil fuels. This graph is particularly eloquent since the increase in global temperature has been dramatic since the 1970s.
