Faced with a seasonal flu epidemic of still high intensity, the vaccination campaign is extended by one month in France, until February 28, announced the Ministry of Health on Wednesday January 22. In its weekly bulletin, which covers the period from January 13 to 19 and published Wednesday, the Public Health France agency notes a “marked severity of the epidemic, with hospital activity still high and a still significant impact in terms of deaths”.
To the extent that “the circulation of influenza viruses is still very active in mainland France and overseas”, “the joint vaccination campaign against influenza and Covid-19 is extended until February 28, 2025” et “fragile people are invited to be vaccinated without delay”details a press release from the Directorate General of Health (DGS). “People aged 65 and over represent 67% of hospitalizations after going to the emergency room for flu/flu-like illness”recalls the DGS.
Vaccination is “highly recommended” for people aged 65 and over, people under 65 suffering from certain chronic illnesses, pregnant women, people suffering from obesity or those around infants at risk of serious flu and immunocompromised people, further specifies the organization.
