They disappeared last October in Ohio (United States). A family was found in Reykjavik (Iceland) on January 10. The two children, aged 8 and 9, were discovered in a hotel in the Icelandic capital and then handed over to local social services. The mother was hospitalized, reports NBC News based on a press release from the US Marshals Service police agency.
The disappearance of the brother and sister was reported to the police on October 25 by a family member. They did not go to school. Their mother, who had stopped her treatment for her mental disorders, had left the apartment. The family left the United States, went to London (England), then to the island of Jersey and to a fishing village in Iceland. They then reached the country's capital.
Children about to return to the USA
To find them, several services worked together, including Interpol but also the English and Icelandic authorities. “The ability to intervene and recover these children from overseas is an extremely difficult task. Our investigators did a remarkable job,” said US Marshal Pete Elliott in the press release.
-The children will soon be able to return to the United States alongside “a trusted family member”. Their mother will remain hospitalized in Iceland until her health allows a transfer across the Atlantic.
