Laura Mueller has been promoted to race engineer for driver Esteban Ocon at Haas. The American team, which replaced its two main drivers (Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen changed to Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman in 2025), promoted Laura Mueller from performance engineer to race engineer : this is the very first time that a woman has held this position.

As F1.com explains, the race engineer is one of the most senior positions on the track, and the main link between the driver and the team on the track through radio communications and off the track , where he strives to improve performance.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu praised his determination and work ethic. “If you look at how many female engineers we have in the office, it's definitely more than before. But it's not like I chose Laura because she's a woman. We don't care about nationality, gender, it really doesn't matter because what matters is the work. How you can integrate into the team, how you can maximize performance. I think it's the right choice“.

Mueller will work directly with Esteban Ocon, a 28-year-old French driver, winner of a single race in 2021 with Alpine and four podiums. He left Alpine in 2025 and has now joined Haas. Komatsu believes that, like Mueller, Ocon is “a pretty determined character too.” Ollie Bearman, a 19-year-old who worked as Magnussen's replacement driver on three occasions last season, has been promoted to main driver. His race engineer will be Ronan O'Hare.
