SENEGAL-AGRICULTURE-APPUI / Bakel: agricultural inputs given to producers affected by floods – Senegalese press agency

Bakel, Jan 21 (APS) – The Ministry of Family and Solidarity, through the Senegal River Valley Resilience and Community Development Project (PRDC-VFS), delivered agricultural inputs to Bakel on Tuesday intended to support producers affected by winter flooding.

“We are almost completing a first round of delivery of agricultural inputs, including rice seeds, corn onions, urea fertilizer, DAP and herbicide and pesticide products,” declared Alassane Kane, monitoring manager. evaluation of the PDRC-VFS.

The municipalities of Ballou, Bakel, Bélé Diawara and Moudéry were chosen to benefit from these agricultural inputs after work done in conjunction with the rural development department and the management of the SAED of Bakel to identify the people most impacted.

“The approach was to favor municipalities whose areas were negatively impacted during the winter but which decided to go to the hot off-season campaign. Based on the two criteria, we made proposals which we validated with the prefect of Bakel,” added Mr. Kane.

Mbaye Sarr Diop, head of the departmental rural development service, revealed that with the floods more than 2,000 ha were impacted, which caused an economic loss in production estimated at more than 6 billion FCFA.

“These inputs will allow producers to restart their agricultural activities. For rice, this will allow us to plant 195 ha in the hot off-season for a production of more than 1,000 tonnes,” rejoiced Mr. Diop.
