This measure was taken, Monday, January 20, by the steering committee responsible for freezing onion imports and regulating agricultural markets within the said agency.

“At the end of this meeting, based on the data received from technical services and producer associations, forecasts of the first onion harvests are expected on the market [national] in February 2025,” states the ARM in an administrative circular of which the APS obtained a copy.

The Market Regulation Agency recalls that it had chosen December 31 as the deadline for imports of this foodstuff.

“However, continues the ARM, for good regulation of the onion market during religious festivals (Appel des Layènes, Kazu Rajab and Magal de Porokhane), and due to the forecasts for the month of February in terms of harvests, it was decided to freeze onion imports from January 25, 2025,” explains the agricultural market regulator.
