EDITORIAL In the Department, the Perrigot “revenge”

In politics, talent alone is not enough. The “luck” factor, in other words external conditions, should not be neglected in the success of the chosen one.

Luck is what Françoise Laurent-Perrigot benefited from, five years ago, when her profile achieved “consensus” to take over the head of the Departmental Council, after the election of Denis Bouad to the Senate. The first woman to lead the community (it was about time), her atypical profile was subject to ridicule. Prudent in its management, certain elected officials, notably communists, would have preferred that tax revenues, boosted by the dynamic real estate market, be quickly re-injected into the territory. The socialist preferred to put them aside, predicting a slowdown in the market. Ultimately, time proved him right. And, despite the drop in tax revenue and budgetary rigor, the community can face the year 2025. This is not the case for all departments.

The Perrigot “brand” also means reminding everyone of their responsibilities. At the start of her mandate, the elected official assured “ not to be the boss of everything or everyone “. Promise kept, by letting its vice-presidents take the full measure of their delegations. As the municipal elections approach, the same strategy is emerging: incumbents and other candidates will have to prepare for the RN risk. If needed, she will be there. But only in support. Experienced, discreet and humble, Françoise Laurent-Perrigot finally revealed herself in this role, showing another way of doing politics. The recipe works in this community threatened with disappearance, where more than 70% of the budget is earmarked for compulsory social expenditure. Moreover, Françoise Laurent-Perrigot is not stopping herself from running for a new mandate… Some people, reading these lines, will laugh out loud!
