A new application dedicated to content creators has just been announced on Instagram. A timing which leaves little doubt as to the platform's desire to compete with TikTok.

If you spend a lot of time on TikTok watching or producing videos, chances are you're familiar with CapCut. Also developed by ByteDance, CapCut helps content creators edit TikTok-friendly videos with tons of presets and other editing templates. Determined not to leave the field open to the Chinese social network, Meta will launch into the same segment.

At the moment, Edits isn't even available on the App Store or Play Store yet. A “pre-order” page does exist on the Apple store, but the app has not yet been officially released. According to the CEO of Instagram, Edits should be downloadable “during February», even if the dedicated App Store page announces an official release in mid-March.

If Instagram rushed to announce a competitor not yet finalized to CapCut, it is to capitalize on the setbacks of ByteDance. The Chinese company had to (temporarily) remove all its applications from American territory due to the famous law on foreign interference passed by the Biden administration.
