The Specific Intervention Plans (PPI) of the two naval bases of Brest and Ile Longue which include nuclear installations, were updated in November 2024, with an area around the military sites increasing from 2 km to 5 km .
These PPIs ensure the safeguarding of populations, property and the protection of the environment when an accident results in, or is likely to result in, dangers going beyond the limits of the establishment concerned.
In the Finistère department, nine municipalities are affected by the new PPI perimeters: Brest, Plouzané, Guilers, Bohars and Roscanvel for the PPI of the Brest naval base; Crozon, Camaret-sur-Mer, Lanvéoc, Plougastel-Daoulas and Roscanvel for the Île-Longue PPI.
In partner pharmacies
As of January 20, 2025, the Ministry of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs is carrying out a campaign to make potassium iodide tablets (stable iodine) preventively available to the entire population residing or working in these municipalities. Individuals will be able to go, without collection voucher or proof of address, to the partner pharmacy closest to their home.
-People who already have tablets distributed during previous campaigns (this only concerns residents of Brest-Rive Droite near the naval base) are invited to return expired boxes for destruction in the appropriate channels.
