This is news that has sparked an immense wave of emotions within Limougea swimming. “She was always there to watch over us, her smile will have marked several generations at the edge of the pools. Thank you for everything,” wrote Célia Barrot, world open water medalist in 2010, on social networks.
Françoise Courtin, 71, died last week, hit by a car, near her home in Beaubreuil where she was a figure in the “grand oak” district. This news was a shock for many and, since then, tributes have multiplied on social networks. “Thank you for everything you have brought to Limougeau swimming, your kindness will remain engraved in our memories,” greeted Swann Plaza, multiple national medalist.
“Chocolate granny”
Françoise has been involved in swimming for almost four decades. She had fallen into it while accompanying her five children to the swimming pool and, one thing led to another, she had never left the edge of the pools.
A totally dedicated volunteer for others, she served as timekeeper during official competitions, notably during the elite French championships which took place in Limoges in 2015 and 2022.
-Over the course of the competitions, she had inherited the nickname “chocolate granny” which spoke a lot of her kindness, her good humor and her generosity. She was one of those volunteers who gives without counting, with discretion and kindness. She expected nothing in return and she would surely have blushed seeing all these love messages flooding the networks.
The burial will take place in family privacy. The People of the Center sends her most sincere condolences to her husband, her children and grandchildren.
