Since the start of winter, the municipal technical teams of Figeac have been working to secure the traffic routes against episodes of frost and snow. With the current severe cold spell, the ten or so agents mobilized each year take turns to keep the roads passable.
In coordination with departmental services, two on-call officers can be activated at any time to intervene in priority sectors. Two main vehicles, a 19-ton truck and a tractor equipped for difficult-to-access areas, are deployed. These vehicles, equipped with a salt spreader and an angled blade, allow action adapted to the different road profiles.
In addition, manual equipment and a large stock of salt and brine are ready for use to deal with unforeseen circumstances.
“The winter plan, in place since November, extends until the end of February, but we will extend it beyond if necessary,” specifies Michel Lavayssière, municipal councilor in charge of roads.
-Priority circuit
A priority circuit has been defined to avoid blockages, including particularly accident-prone areas such as the Route des Crêtes, the Route de l'Aiguille (D822) with its dangerous bends, or access to the IUT, etc. This system is perfectly coordinated with the Lacapelle-Marival STR and the departmental teams. An on-call manager, a patrol officer and a driver take turns to respond to alerts and trigger interventions.
According to forecasts, this episode of extreme cold is expected to last until Wednesday, mobilizing teams to maintain safety on the roads of Figeac.
