A 7-year-old child died in a violent fire which broke out on the night of Saturday January 18 to Sunday January 19 in Amanvillers (Moselle). Four injured “light” are also to be deplored, two adults and two children, reported The Lorraine Republican. Awakened by the smoke detector, the parents were only able to get their two youngest daughters, aged 1 and 3, out. The older brother remained trapped in the fire.
When firefighters arrived, the fire had spread throughout the home, making entry impossible. Around fifty firefighters were mobilized at the height of the intervention, as well as around twenty vehicles, including three pump engines, an aerial ladder, a medical team and a clearing rescue unit. The victim's parents and little sisters were taken to hospital to undergo checks.
An open investigation
“When I opened the shutter of my house, I saw the disaster. I saw the house burning. There were flames everywhere. It was really terrible to see the house go to ashes”said a neighbor, reported France 3. The Metz public prosecutor affirmed “that an investigation is entrusted to the national gendarmerie (Metz company) in order to determine the circumstances of the incident”. A psychological unit has been set up.
-The village has, since this Sunday, shown solidarity. A long-time friend of the father of the family appealed to residents to collect clothes, toys and other basic necessities. He also opened an online jackpot, which had already exceeded 9,000 euros during the day.
