PLC leadership: Mélanie Joly supports Mark Carney

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly supports Mark Carney in the race for leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.

First considered to succeed Justin Trudeau, Ms. Joly announced this week that she had decided not to run for the leadership of the party.

She indicated Sunday that she was finally offering her support to former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney.

“He has a clear vision for a better, greener future for all of us, as well as a concrete plan to implement it,” she says, in a publication on X. Mark Carney is also best placed to defeat Pierre Poilievre.

This announcement from the minister came just a few minutes before the start of the press conference of the woman who is expected to be Mark Carney’s main rival for the leadership of the party, Chrystia Freeland, who officially launches her campaign on Sunday.
