Six years ago, Christelle Minault et Christophe Coupe fell under the spell of this little restaurant, located in the heart of Martigné-Ferchaud (Ille-et-Vilaine).
“This business was a favorite,” recalls the co-owner of the Why Pas.
“We didn't know Martigné-Ferchaud at all, it was chance that pushed us here. We immediately liked the town. »
“We managed to build customer loyalty in ten months”
The couple then managed guest rooms in Pleudihen-sur-Rance (Côtes-d'Armor). But their appetite for catering pushed them to open their first restaurant.
“Since I was little, I dreamed of running my own restaurant,” she smiles.
Christelle works in the dining room, making starters and desserts, and Christophe in the kitchen. The pair originally from Saint-Malo worked to convince local customers to sit at their table.
Their seasonal menushomemade with local products, quickly won over.
“It was a challenge, but we managed to build customer loyalty in ten months», rejoices the restaurateur, before talking about the ordeal of health crisis .
“It broke the dynamic…”inflation of energy and raw materials prices will then arrive with the war in Ukraine.
“Economically, we struggled, we didn't have enough cash flow to cope after almost a year without activity. »
“We miss the sea”
However, six years later, the Why Pas is still very much alive, rue Émile Bridel.
“We are the only restaurant in the town center,” emphasizes the 52-year-old mother, who mainly welcomes professional customers at lunchtime.
-“We have a capacity of 18 seats on the terrace and two rooms with around twenty seats. »
After years of personal investment, a year ago, they decided to put their first business up for sale. The call of the open sea is too strong.
“We miss the sea,we are too far from our ties, and we do not want to exhaust ourselves at work, confides Christelle Minault. We lived for more than 30 years in Saint-Malo with our children and today, we only have our youngest left, who will enter high school next year. If we could move our restaurant to the seaside, we would. We love it…”
However, both do not want to rush into handing over their establishment to the first comers. “We know that there are people who correspond to this case, who will have a crush, like us at the time! »
260 000 €
Last spring, the couple, owners of the premises and the business, thought they could turn the page, but the first takeover project did not come to fruition.
On the advice of their son, they decide to post an ad on SOS Villages a platform to help revive businesses in rural areas with the 1 p.m. news on TF1.
We have received a lot of requests since, but only from people who are interested in the business. But our wish is to sell in funds and walls so that there is a real traditional village restaurant in Martigné.
The sale price is €260,000 net seller, including the walls, the business equipped with a recent professional kitchen, as well as a dwelling inseparable from the rest.
Christelle Minault specifies their wish: “Ideally, we would like to leave in September, but we are giving ourselves until the end of the year at most to find a buyer. »
As for customers, the news of their departure has already spread widely. “Some tell us very kindly that they hope we won’t find it right away, they are adorable. »
The couple is already sketching out a new project, near the sea spray of the Channel or the Atlantic, after turning this page in their lives.
