Participants in a seminar organized Friday in Rabat by the National Union of the Moroccan Press (SNPM) called for supporting the development of Amazigh media by providing them with the necessary tools to fully fulfill their roles.
The speakers during this seminar, held at the Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC), under the theme “the situation of Amazigh in the press and national media” on the occasion of the New Year Amazigh, highlighted the efforts made to integrate this fundamental component of Moroccan identity into the Moroccan media.
This meeting was also an opportunity to discuss current media policies and practices, to ensure an effective and lasting presence of Amazigh in the written, audiovisual and digital press.
In this regard, the Director of Communication and Public Relations at the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mustapha Amedjar, indicated that Morocco has chosen to support the Amazigh media, by setting up a legal and regulatory framework offering a solid basis guaranteeing their development and their interaction with the changes experienced by the media sector in its different dimensions.
He also specified that human and financial resources as well as public financing mechanisms have been mobilized for this purpose, highlighting the support provided to all initiatives in the field of Amazigh media, taking advantage of the experiences accumulated by the national press.
Several achievements have been made in this area, he added, thanks to several commitments included in the specifications of public audiovisual institutions, welcoming in this sense the role of the MAP through its portal in the Amazigh language, which made it possible to provide important information and news in this language as part of its efforts to strengthen the linguistic plurality of Morocco.
For his part, the president of the National Union of the Moroccan Press, Abdelkebir Khchichine, affirmed that the Amazigh media experience has achieved several achievements leading to the strengthening of media efforts aimed at creating a journalistic environment integrating all the components of the national identity.
-He also underlined the importance of supporting Amazigh media for the consecration of cultural and linguistic diversity, highlighting the efforts of journalists operating in Amazigh media and platforms, who dedicate their work to the development of a media content that meets ambitions.
For his part, the Director of ISIC, Abdellatif Bensfia, indicated that the meeting aims to celebrate Amazigh culture and language, recalling that Amazigh media content is now present in the national media landscape.
In this sense, he noted that the ISIC “is not left out of this dynamic driven by HM King Mohammed VI”, noting that a new official program for the teaching of the Amazigh language and culture has was launched within the Institute during this year.
Mr. Bensfia also expressed the Institute’s readiness to organize an annual meeting to pay tribute to Amazigh journalists, having contributed to the establishment of the foundations of the Amazigh media landscape and to highlight the challenges facing this sector. , as well as the prospects for its development.
The conference was notably marked by the presence of an audience of journalists and researchers who enriched the debate with proposals on the development of the Amazigh media field and the strengthening of its presence within the national media landscape.
