A man was taken into police custody on Friday January 17 after the attack on a jogger in Gard. The woman was stabbed several times while running in a park on January 11.
A week after the attack on a 44-year-old jogger in Vergèze, near Nîmes in the Gard, a man was arrested and placed in police custody on the evening of Friday January 17. The suspect, aged 25, is “domiciled in the environment of the place where the acts were committed”indicated the public prosecutor of Nîmes, Cécile Gensac, in a press release published Saturday January 18, cited by BFM TV.
A call for witnesses was launched while a blatant investigation into the charge of attempted homicide was opened and entrusted to the research section of the Nîmes gendarmerie, with the research brigade of the Vauvert gendarmerie company and the entire workforce of the Gard departmental gendarmerie group.
The reasons for the suspect's action are not known.
The 44-year-old woman was attacked with a knife while jogging in a park on Saturday January 11. She had received “several blows from behind”had detailed a previous press release published on January 12. Witnesses present at the scene managed to make the suspect leave before alerting the emergency services. The vital prognosis of the forty-year-old had been considered as “engaged” before his state of health stabilized following the attack.
