The Ford government has started paying the $200 rebates to Ontarians and for each of their eligible children.
-This measure was announced by Doug Ford in October.
As families tighten their belts due to the federal carbon tax, high interest rates and global economic uncertainty, our government is taking new steps in its ongoing efforts to keep families low costs and help families make ends meet
indicated the Minister of Finance, Peter Bethlenfalvy, in a press release.
To be eligible for this discount, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old and have been a resident of Ontario as of December 31, 2023
- Not having declared bankruptcy or been imprisoned in 2024
- Have submitted your 2023 income tax and benefit return by December 31, 2024
A separate check for $200 per child under 18 will also be sent to families eligible for the Canada Child Benefit (CCB).
In light of this initiative by the province, an Ontario organization encouraged residents of the province to donate this money to charitable organizations.
The 200dollars.ca initiative estimates that $200 donations could have a positive long-term effect for those struggling to make ends meet.
