On TikTok, the mother showed images of her little girl, barely 1 year old, in pain after giving her “unauthorized” medication. She subsequently opened a fundraiser to collect donations.

It's a sordid affair that is shaking Australia. This Friday, January 17 in Brisbane, a 34-year-old woman was due to appear in court after being arrested the day before for poisoning her one-year-old granddaughter. During a period spanning from August to October 2024, she used stratagems to collect “unauthorized” medications, particularly in boxes present in her home and prescribed to other members of her family, and administer them to her baby.

She then broadcast images of her suffering little daughter on TikTok to arouse empathy among her “followers” and thus collect donations. She would have recovered up to 60,000 Australian dollars (around 36,000 euros) thanks to an online jackpot, reports the Australian media ABC News. “There are no words to describe how disgusting crimes of this nature are,” responded the inspector in charge of the investigation.

It was the doctors who had to take emergency care of the little girl in October who alerted the authorities. She was then in danger of death, but her days are no longer numbered, according to Inspector Dalton in charge of the investigation.

The mother is being prosecuted for “torture, fraud, poisoning and making content exploiting children”. “Experts described that the child would have suffered serious emotional and physical distress and harm,” the Australian inspector said.

The GoFundMe site, which hosted the prize pool, is reportedly in the process of making reimbursements to the various donors.
