This Friday, January 17, the holy city of Ndiassane, the world of the press and the Islamic Ummah will commemorate the anniversary of the call to God of Mouhidine Ahmed Bachir Kounta. This man, known for his humility, his greatness of soul and his outspokenness, remains an example and a source of inspiration for young journalists.

Born in 1937 in Saint-Louis, Senegal, he received a French education while remaining deeply attached to his cultural and religious roots. Trilingual, he mastered Wolof, French and Arabic with ease, qualities which made him an exceptional speaker on television sets. Versatile, he distinguished himself as a sports journalist as well as an analyst of social issues or a man of culture. He was an essential figure in the Senegalese press and played a central role in the religious and social life of Ndiassane.

Until his retirement, he left his mark on generations of viewers at Radiodiffusion Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS) with his professionalism and his relevant analyses. He embodied wisdom, elegance and hope, instilling in the Senegalese people an unwavering faith in the future. Furthermore, he carried the word of the Khadre family of Ndiassane with dignity, also assuming political responsibilities as a senator under the presidency of Abdoulaye Wade.

For Samba Mangane, seasoned journalist, Mouhidine Ahmed Bachir Kounta will remain one of the best reporters in Senegal and Africa. He recalls with emotion the ease with which he hosted major events and translated official speeches, notably those of the President of the Republic. He also highlights his role as a mentor to new generations of journalists.
