The strengthening of the partnership between Morocco and the African Union Development Agency (ADUA/NEPAD) in the field of water was at the center of talks, Thursday in Rabat, between the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, and the Director General of ADUA/NEPAD, Ms. Nardos Bekele-Thomas.

In a statement to the press following this interview, Mr. Baraka affirmed that “this exchange made it possible to examine ways to strengthen partnerships between Morocco and African countries, particularly in the field of water. , and to share the expertise and successful experiences of our country with the countries of sub-Saharan Africa within the framework of South-South cooperation.

This cooperation may notably relate to water conservation methods, water desalination using renewable energies and integrated water management methods, he said.

The minister thus highlighted the structuring projects carried out by Morocco, highlighting the Kingdom’s “pioneering experience” in the development of port infrastructure, such as the Mediterranean port of Tangier Med, the port of Nador and the Atlantic port of Dakhla.

Describing this meeting as “fruitful”, Mrs. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, for her part, underlined the importance of this meeting in the concretization of the discussions started since 2022, on strategic projects for the continent, particularly in the field of water.

“Morocco is a key player thanks to its recognized expertise in water management and its innovative solutions, particularly in terms of redistribution of water resources between regions,” she said.

She also welcomed the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Morocco’s commitment to African integration, while welcoming the socio-economic achievements and the momentum of development experienced by the Kingdom. , particularly in the area of ​​water.

Furthermore, this meeting made it possible to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and ADUA-NEPAD, while deepening consultation on issues of common interest.

The African Union Development Agency has the mandate to coordinate development activity on the continent and mobilize the resources necessary for the implementation of its projects.
