The official election campaign for the Chamber of Agriculture has begun. It is possible to slip ballots into the postal or electronic ballot box from this Wednesday, January 15 until January 31 at midnight.
What is the composition of the Chamber of Agriculture in Moselle?
It is made up of 33 members elected by the agricultural world. The ballot is open to agricultural operators, as well as employees and retirees in the sector and landowners.
All components of the agrarian world are represented through 10 colleges separated into categories: The individual college for farm managers or agricultural production employees in particular. There is also the college of agricultural groups for cooperatives or mutuals for example. Different seats are allocated based on categories.

The elections are organized by and under the control of public authorities, in particular the prefecture. These different colleges are elected in 1 round.
For three colleges, in particular number 1 corresponding to farm managers, it is a mixed ballot combining a proportional and majority system. The list that arrives first receives half of the seats, then the others distribute the seats according to the results.

What is its role?
The elected representative to the Chamber of Agriculture will have a role of representation and mediator between farmers and their economic, social and political environment.
When a law is passed, they make sure to take the opinion of all parties in the agricultural world because all voices count. Then give this opinion to decision-makers.
