Mohamed Abdelwahab Rafiki, advisor to the Minister of Justice and researcher in Islamic jurisprudence, ruled out the possibility of Morocco becoming a secular state separating political life from religion, on the sidelines of the ongoing debate on reforms linked to the Family Code .
Speaking during the program “Dayf Khass” on Le Site info, Rafiki, better known as Abou Hafs, declared that it is not possible for Morocco to transform into a secular state under the current regime, which is based on the principle of “Imarat Al-Mouminine” (Commandery of the Believers).
“Under the Constitution, Islam is the official religion of the Kingdom and the legitimacy of the regime is based on the oath of allegiance (the Bay’a), while “Imarat Al-Mouminine” guarantees religious pluralism, peace and coexistence within the state,” explains the former Salafist.
The researcher also stressed that the Moroccan monarchical regime is historical and approved by Moroccans, providing them with spiritual security and stability.
