Domenico Tedesco is not going to last long at the head of the Belgian selection. Appointed in February 2023 to take over from Roberto Martinez, the Italian-German technician did not succeed in his mission. Under his leadership, the Red Devils were eliminated in the round of 16 of Euro 2024 by the team (1-0), in addition to having experienced problems with historic executives of the selection like Romelu Lukaku and especially Thibaut Courtois. The latter has also left the selection, as long as the coach is in place.

It shouldn’t last much longer since Tedesco was ousted from the draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He has not yet been officially sacked but his position is already no longer tenable.“There is no point letting Tedesco make statements about his future opponents if he does not yet know his own future” even justified the Belgian Federation (RBFA). The latter has started looking for a new strong man at the head of its national team and its choice is currently falling on two French people.

There is no contact with the Belgian federation.

His main competitor is none other than Rudi Garcia. His work has always been appreciated across Quiévrain, where his double with LOSC Ligue 1-Coupe de France in 2011 has not been forgotten. The 60-year-old coach also has the advantage of being free since his departure from Naples in the fall of 2023. The former Lyonnais and Marseillais had already been cited to take the position a few months ago. This time, he would even be the suitable candidate for Vincent Mannaert, the brand new sports director of the Belgian Federation. A choice should be ratified by the end of January/beginning of February.
