Valais adopts a digital strategy for compulsory education
The canton of Valais has adopted a digital strategy for education, just approved by the Council of State. The stated objective is to equip students with the essential skills to operate in a digital environment.
The strategy aims to integrate digital skills into all compulsory schools, as well as general and vocational secondary II training. According to the Valais authorities, this plan will allow students to master digital tools, understand their rights and duties online and develop a critical approach to new technologies. It also includes awareness of digital opportunities and risks, as well as the issue of digital identity.
Teacher training is one of the priorities of this initiative. A specific course covers teaching in the digital domain, the use of classroom tools and the prevention of technology-related risks.
In terms of equipment, the strategy provides for the standardization of digital equipment in schools. The canton will allocate an additional annual budget of 6.7 million francs, including a lump sum of 70 francs per student to finance teaching resources and equipment.
