His deputy therefore held his last greeting ceremony as deputy for the first constituency of Landes, Saturday January 11. It was an opportunity to look back on his last months at the Palais Bourbon.
On January 23, Geneviève Darrieussecq takes her place in the National Assembly, you will no longer be a deputy. How did you experience these years in the chamber?
Indeed, it was a long experience of six and a half years in the National Assembly. I was very honored to represent the Landais from 2017 to 2023 and over the last three months. With Geneviève (Darrieussecq) at the Ministry of Health, we moved forward on many subjects, notably for the health center project in Biscarrosse, but also on issues linked to the environment and hunting. Soon, the adoption of a state budget should make it possible to support issues concerning the suffering construction sector, the hospital sector, health, education, our armies and internal security. Good luck to François Bayrou. I will return to my seat as mayor, I hope, with a close eye on the national situation.
Exactly, what are your feelings about the current political situation?
I was marked by this deleterious atmosphere at the Palais Bourbon, particularly over the last three months, with a completely composite, fragmented assembly. She was the representation of the French. I have always talked with everyone, but this behavior of extremist parties has deeply affected me. I deplored complicated moments, where everyone paid more attention to their agenda for the next elections than to the immediate interests of the country. However, if there are issues to be resolved now, the general interest must prevail. That seems to me to be the priority rather than the interest of his party.
Finally, what do you want for 2025?
Wishes for appeasement for our country and, finally, that we can listen to each other, discuss, in order to find solutions for our compatriots in the areas mentioned above. There are big issues today. How can we manage old age and train more practitioners, nurses and doctors? We need to put more resources into education, as well as justice. Fortunately, things have progressed in recent years. In a toughening international context, we are in an uncomfortable situation with Trump's announcements, our Ukrainian friends who are suffering in the face of this unjust conflict, or the complicated relationships with China and Iran. We must continue to support our armies so that France is the leader of the free world and take our responsibilities in the face of authoritarian regimes which do not respect international law.
