Evacuations of buildings in danger follow one another

Buildings have been in danger for a year in Toulouse, after the spectacular collapse from a building on rue Saint-Rome, in the heart of the city, on March 9 in the early morning. Since then, episodes of evacuations of weakened buildings have followed one another throughout 2024.

The latest: those of a building at the corner of rue des Changes and rue des Temponières, in October, which was then the subject of impressive reinforcement. On December 14, three more buildings on rue Denfert-Rochereau were evacuated, before residents were banned from coming to live there.

“A reporting system that works well,” says Jean-Luc Moudenc

“We are in a very old center, so there are necessarily many buildings that are very fragile, or which are going to be, it cannot be otherwise,” explained last March Jean-Luc Moudencthe mayor of Toulouse, after the collapse of rue Saint-Rome, which had weakened other buildings in the district. “The main thing, for me, is that we have a well-functioning reporting systemthat the community is reactive, and that it can each time a danger of this type is proven, take measures to put people out of danger,” invoked the first magistrate. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
