Matam, January 14 (APS) – Women members of three economic interest groups (EIG) from the departments of Matam, Kanel and Ranérou were made aware, Tuesday, of the hygiene and health safety of milk, as part of of the ”FSIL Milk Value Chain in Senegal” project.
“This training follows the analyzes of their dairy products [sur lesquels] samples had been taken,” explained Younoussa Diallo, researcher at the Institute of Food Technology (ITA).
He stressed that the ITA had come to “share the results of these analyzes with the processors to make them aware of the health quality of their products” from which samples had been taken.
Mr. Diallo spoke during an information and sharing workshop with actors and stakeholders in the milk sector in the Matam region.
The ”FSIL Milk Value Chain in Senegal” project focuses on strengthening the quality and safety of dairy products, he recalled.
The ITA, he explained, started from the observation that a lot of effort was made on aspects linked to production, while that relating to safety and hygiene “was the poor relation of the value chain”.
-“This is why the project focused on these two aspects to help processors better provide quality products to consumers. The results of the products from the region and received at the ITA showed that it was necessary to equip the processors so that they had good practices and improved the health quality of the products,” he maintained.
The participants are members of GIE based in Ourossogui, Sinthiou Bamambé and Ranérou.
