the essential
In keeping with the times, artificial intelligence is entering into the discussions of the departmental council, whether to improve its action or to secure the sensitive data it manages.
On the sidelines of the vote on the budget itself, the Ariège departmental council's reflections are well underway on subjects whose impact is already being felt on its activity. This is the case with artificial intelligence (AI), whose uses continue to expand, and sometimes in a way that is too discreet. “It’s a real subject for us,” confirms the president of the departmental council, Christine Téqui, “because it is already used internally, but on unvalidated files that we cannot put in the public sphere like that. “
City management, public transport, health crises, the perspectives opened up by AI in the field of public action are multiple. As much as the concerns it raises, particularly in terms of data confidentiality. “We must take note that we have hypersensitive data,” notes Christine Téqui, citing among other things personal data linked to the department's action in social matters.
A strategy is therefore being developed, which will involve, among other things, the training of elected officials and agents, the creation of working groups intended to define actions likely to benefit from AI and the definition of the terms of use of the Generative and conversational AI. And, ultimately, by the creation of a conversational AI on the servers of the departmental council which, in the long term, “could be open to citizens as well as agents of the departmental council”, imagines Christine Téqui.
-The stakes are not small, starting with the regulation and control of sensitive data which the department manages. “But always trusting real intelligence rather than artificial intelligence,” underlines the president in conclusion.
