The Minister of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure of Mauritania, El Vadil Ould Sidaty Ould Ahmed Louly, had a meeting Monday morning, January 13, 2024 at the headquarters of his ministry in Nouakchott with the Senegalese Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Infrastructure and ports, Dr. Fatou Diouf. This meeting is part of the official visit of the Senegalese ministerial delegation, accompanying the Senegalese Prime Minister to Mauritania.
The discussions mainly focused on bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the strategic area of fishing and maritime infrastructure. This cooperation, which is based on a fishing agreement signed in 2001, allows Senegalese fishermen to carry out their activity in Mauritanian waters. The implementation protocols for this agreement were recently renewed, marking a common desire to strengthen this collaboration for the years to come.
The interviews took place in the presence of several officials from the Mauritanian ministry, including the secretary general of the ministry, Sidi Aly Ould Sidi Boubakar, as well as numerous central executives and directors of public institutions affiliated with the ministry. The meeting also saw the participation of the Director of Fisheries of the Senegalese Ministry of Fisheries, Maritime Infrastructure and Ports.
The authorities of both countries stressed the importance of this cooperation for the development of the fishing sectors and maritime infrastructure, which play a crucial role in the respective economies of the two nations. The objective is to consolidate existing links and explore new collaboration opportunities to optimize the management of fisheries resources and improve port infrastructure.
