Uganda national team coach Paul Put has expressed his disappointment after the cancellation of the planned friendly match against Senegal. This meeting should have allowed the Uganda Cranes to measure themselves against the reigning CHAN champions before the start of the tournament.
Despite this cancellation, Paul Put remains positive and confirmed that the Cranes’ preparation will continue with alternative opponents. On January 18, 2025, Uganda will face Niger in Rwanda, an important test before the start of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be held from February 1 to 28 in three host countries: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Another friendly match is scheduled against the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 24 in Dubai. “ The match against Senegal did not materialize as planned. We did have discussions, but no confirmation came from them. We quickly adjusted our plan and found other opponents to continue preparing the team,” explainedas the Belgian coach.
For their part, the Senegalese authorities confirmed having received the request from Uganda, but the Senegalese Football Federation has chosen not to validate this meeting for the moment. They prefer to wait for the tournament draw, scheduled for tomorrow, before scheduling their next preparation matches. It is, however, certain that Senegal will play friendly matches or participate in a tournament before leaving for the competition.
