A new foster home is opening in Geneva. The Salvation Army has transformed its three-star Bel’Espérance hotel, located in the Old Town, into a shelter for vulnerable women. While associations regularly warn of the saturation of reception structures, the organization is creating 50 additional places: 30 are intended for homeless women and are financed by the Geneva municipalities within the framework of the cantonal law on assistance to people. homeless (LAPSA). The twenty remaining places are already occupied by social assistance recipients whose stay is covered by the General Hospice.
“If we had additional floors, we would fill them. Demand remains much greater than supply,” notes Alain Meuwly, the former hotel director who has now become the head of a social institution.
