Taxation

The General Directorate of Taxation (DGF) intends to intensify its support for taxpayers in 2025, a pivotal year since it sees the rise of online services enriched with many new features and will be the last of the VaudTax software. So that taxpayers can make this transition peacefully, numerous support measures will be put in place.

This is a page that will turn for Vaud taxpayers. The VaudTax software, in place since the 2003 tax period, will no longer be available from 2026. In a rapidly changing world, its technology has become obsolete and it now has significantly fewer features than online delivery, the solution of tomorrow. . The figures show the growing adoption of online service: from 27,000 users in 2022, it increased to more than 183,000 in 2024, surpassing the VaudTax software for the first time.
Aware that this transition must be carried out smoothly, the General Directorate of Taxation will continue and even strengthen in 2025 the support measures put in place over the past two years. She also encourages taxpayers to take advantage of this opportunity to take the plunge now. In addition to the traditional sessions to familiarize yourself with this tool which are always full (with more dates and extended times), video capsules available online will complete the system. In addition, an event open to all taxpayers will be organized on March 25, 2025 in Beaulieu.

Strengthening user orientation

But the actions carried out by the DGF do not stop there. Next year, it will continue the sessions initiated in 2024 in penitentiary establishments and will strengthen its awareness campaign among young people through increased collaboration with various partners.
The start of 2025 also marks the launch of a new feature which is fully in line with the user orientation advocated by the General Directorate of Taxation as well as with the objectives of the legislative program of the Council of State.
From today, documents sent by post to taxpayers with access to the secure portal of the State of Vaud will also be available online in their Tax File. Ultimately, taxpayers will also be able, if they wish, to receive their tax documents electronically instead of by post.
In the medium term, the General Directorate of Taxation also wishes to introduce pre-filling of the tax return with all the information in its possession. In addition, a pilot project in collaboration with the Chancellery for a tax “chatbot” is underway.

Relaxation of agricultural taxation

The launch of a new tax period is also accompanied by legislative changes. In addition to measures linked to purchasing power, we will note a relaxation in terms of agricultural taxation.
The additional instructions for land users have thus been updated for the 2024 tax period. These include details concerning the tax treatment of the operator’s domicile, in particular for small farms requiring less than one labor unit. -standard work as well as practical information for the valuation of land during transmission within the family. By simplification and under certain conditions, certain operators will thus be able to benefit from preferential taxation at the moment when the plot supporting their housing leaves the commercial fortune.

Promotion of the energy transition

In order to support the commitments of the Council of State to promote the energy transition, the deadline for deducting costs for energy savings has been shortened, including for new buildings. Since January 1, 2025, the cantonal tax administration has also put in place a mobility agreement available to employers which makes it possible to support soft mobility (allocation of tax-free compensation).
All these elements are joined by an administrative simplification of procedures with the first step being the adaptation of the RETIF administrative directives.

These steps illustrate the commitment of the State of Vaud to modernizing its tax system while meeting the expectations of taxpayers. Thanks to these efforts, the General Directorate of Taxation reaffirms its role in serving the population and the future of the canton.
