A fire breaks out in this famous Gers company, several dozen employees evacuated

It is one of the flagships of Gers who was hit by a fire Monday January 13, 2025 in the early afternoon: the largest chocolate manufacturer fair trade organic from France.

The firefighters intervened for a fire at the headquarters of this Cooperative Production Company (Scop) which produces, among other things, several million tablets per year, at Fleurance.

In the rest room

“A fire probably of electrical origin,” assures the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Gers (Sdis 32).

63 employees at the assembly point

The fire started in the insulation of the false ceiling of a rest room in the chocolate factory. A 100 m piece² located in an industrial building of 5,000 m².

In total, 63 employees had to be evacuated and gathered at the assembly point during the intervention. The production equipment was not damaged.

No impact on production

“Administrative closure of 10 offices, however the activity of the factory has not been impacted”, assures Sdis 32, which specifies thata firefighter was still slightly injured in the shoulder while stripping the ceiling. He was transported to the Auch hospital center.
