We'll have to push the thermostats a little higher. Since Monday January 13 at midnight, the Moselle has been placed by Météo France on yellow “spike cold” alert. A situation which will last until Wednesday January 15 at 12 p.m. In Meurthe-et-Moselle, the situation being more advanced, Françoise Souliman, prefect of the department, decided to activate level 1 of the “severe cold” plan.
Last night in Metz, temperatures dropped to -8° and we can expect the same temperatures in the coming days with a feeling of -10°. During the day, temperatures will not exceed 0°. This cold spell particularly weakens the elderly, people with disabilities or those suffering from cardiovascular diseases, respiratory or endocrine diseases, those working outdoors or in an open place, the homeless or even people who have to take the road with the risk of ice or snow.
The Moselle prefecture asks its residents to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, particularly going out in the evening or at night, to dress warmly and to consume hot drinks, avoiding alcoholic ones. She also recommends that you do not use auxiliary heating continuously, do not block the air inlets in your home and ventilate it for a few minutes even in this cold. If you have to drive, she asks you to find out about road conditions and to contact 115 if you encounter someone in difficulty or a homeless person.
Strengthening reception measures during winter in Moselle
As part of this period of winter cold, the Moselle department announced this Monday the strengthening of its winter measures in order to combat the temperatures expected in the coming days.
The winter campaign takes place from November 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, this is a period during which State services and operators in charge of social monitoring pay particular attention to the most vulnerable people, in particular the homeless. This Friday, January 10, the prefect of Moselle with his partners decided to strengthen winter measures at least until January 14. Among these measures, we find the opening of a night stop in Florange which can accommodate 11 people, that of Metz will increase its reception capacity to 15 people and will also be open an hour earlier, 3 additional beds have been installed at the CHRS of Betting and Sarreguemines and the hours of day reception have been extended.
These measures are taken in addition to the 8,040 accommodation places available in Moselle.
