Aesthetic injections are not without risks: a surgeon warns of possible dangers.
At least two people have died following an injection carried out by someone who was not actually trained to undertake a so-called cosmetic treatment. The Royal Belgian Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (RBSPS) confirmed the information to Nieuwsblad on Monday.
In recent years, dubious clinics have emerged, where botox injections or fillers are administered without much knowledge on the subject, explains plastic surgeon Steven Colpaert, of the RBSPS. “In the event of a bad injection, part of the lip or nose may necrotize, or you may lose your vision.“, he said. The patient may even die.”if the filler is injected into a vein in the face that is connected to a vein in the brain,” he adds. “This can cause a blood clot, which leads to thrombosis.”
The fact that two people have already died because of this was not previously known, writes the Flemish newspaper. Mr. Colpaert confirms that a death occurred two years ago in Brussels and five years ago in Antwerp. But there were probably other incidents, he said.
