In her X account, the conservative politician says she met the future president twice, Saturday evening at his home in Mar-a-Lago and a second time Sunday morning at his golf club.
She also shared photos showing her with Donald Trump and Canadian businessman Kevin O’Leary.
“We had a friendly and constructive conversation during which I emphasized the mutual importance of the energy relationship between the United States and Canada, and particularly the fact that hundreds of thousands of jobs “Americans depend on Alberta’s energy exports,” Danielle Smith wrote in her post.
The Alberta Prime Minister also claimed to have had similar discussions with “several key allies of the future administration” and said she was “encouraged to hear their support for a strong relationship with Canada in terms of energy and security” .
“The United States and Canada are proud, independent nations with one of the most important security alliances on Earth and the largest economic partnership in history. We must preserve our independence while growing this critical partnership for the benefit of future generations of Canadians and Americans,” she also wrote in her publication.
Since the American election, Donald Trump has increased his mockery towards Canada and its Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, insinuating that the country could become the 51e American state.
Also, his threats to increase customs tariffs to 25% greatly worry the Canadian business community, because several sectors of the Canadian economy depend on exports to the United States.
