Shattered by Cyclone Chido less than a month ago, Mayotte suffered, on Sunday January 12, in the south and center of the island, the torrential rains of the strong tropical storm Dikeledi, fearing a new major disaster . After crossing the northern tip of Madagascar, where it caused the death of at least three people and left more than 1,000 victims, the low pressure system passed, in the early afternoon, 95 kilometers from the southern coasts of hundred and first French department, which has been licking its wounds since December 14, 2024.

As of Saturday, 10 p.m. local time (8 p.m. in ), Mayotte was placed on red alert, with residents prohibited from going out and moving around.

Storm Dikeledi was less powerful than Chido, which left at least 39 dead, more than 100 missing and 5,000 injured. Chido had especially blown with gusts of more than 220 km/h, razing all the shanty towns, tearing off the roofs of solid buildings and destroying forests and plantations. Dikeledi was more of a rainstorm. The first had above all devastated the north of the island. The second rather affected the south.
