A narrowly avoided accident in Ghent: cyclists cross a level crossing as the train arrives, “the driver was in a state of shock”
Two cyclists crossed a closed level crossing in Ghent on Saturday. Fortunately, the train driver managed to avoid the collision, explains SNCB. The incident occurred at 5:30 p.m. between Ghent-Dampoort and Wondelgem. The train driver saw two cyclists ignoring the red lights at the closed crossing and was able to jump on the brakes and stop just in time.
“The train driver was in a state of shock. A new driver had to come and pick up the passengers to take them to Wondelgem,” Bart Crols, SNCB spokesperson, told Belga.
