His little dog has just had a makeover for the new year. His hair is very soft and immaculately white. “How beautiful she is”adds the retiree, caressing Vanille.
It must be said that this little ball of fur has just been pampered by a best apprentice in France in the dog grooming category. Just that! This is Élisa Fleurance, an 18-year-old from Sarthoise.
She won over the jury by presenting a “baby” cut made on a shih tzu, a small long-haired dog. A perfect job which allowed him to leave, gold around his neck. It was 2023 and still only 16 years old.

A beautiful business card which allowed him to open his first grooming salon with complete peace of mind, at La Flèche, this Monday January 6. His first week was indeed not easy: no less than 25 meetings filled his diary.
But nothing to impress him. “I felt completely ready.”assures the young woman who kept waiting to celebrate her 18th birthday in November 2024 to take the plunge.
“I couldn’t see myself being an employee in another grooming salon because there are salons where you have to learn to work like the boss. My way of working, I didn’t want to change it too much.” she adds.
And, in his profession, the watchword is patience. For a small dog, it takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes of grooming and 3 hours for a large dog.

She’s only 18, but she already owns her business. Elisa Fleurance is an animal groomer, she won the title of best apprentice in France last year, and is starting 2025 with the opening of her salon in the city center of La Flèche.

Élisa Fleurance assures us that beyond the aesthetic aspect, grooming your dog is essential to guarantee its good health. “Taking care of a dog is important for its health. Having too many knots can weaken them”she supports.
Veterinarians actually recommend bathing a dog once every two months, approximately. This is to eliminate all the dirt, debris and dust that accumulates in their coat and provide them with a healthy lifestyle.
And cutting their hair is also necessaryespecially at the pads. If they are not trimmed regularly, a dog’s nails can grow into their pads, causing them severe pain.
Removing the hair inside their ear is also recommended. This is to prevent the appearance of ear infections. Just like caring for the hair around the eyes. You should also not neglect cleaning this area: eye discharge can cause micro-injuries.
A set of things that Élisa Fleurance now tackles five days a week in her living room. And the Sarthoise does not intend to stop there. After vying for the title of Best Apprentice, she is working to win the French Grooming Championship in November. 2025.
