According to the latest figures from the statistical portal Statista, the average amount of rent in France is increasing by 3.3% this year compared to 2024. While it sometimes varies very widely depending on the region and the property, it is establishes, for 2025, at 723 euros per month, charges included.

The entry into force, since January 1, of the ban on renting “thermal strainers” (displaying an energy performance diagnosis – DPE – E and F) is added to the list of constraints. Consequence: the number of tenants is increasing with, for 2025, 37% of French people concerned. At the start of the year, the statistical portal Statista took an interest in the average rent paid by these 37% of residents. The latter is determined by different criteria: region, even city, but also size of the accommodation. And in 2025, it rises to 723 euros, charges included.
Saint-Étienne, the cheapest city
According to Statista, this sum is up 3.3% compared to 2024. Above all, for this amount of 723 euros, it was established that the average surface area was 42.5m², which corresponds to a cost of 17. 03 euros per square meter. Certain cities particularly stand out in this study, such as Rennes or Orléans. These two municipalities saw their rents increase quite significantly – 7.25% more for the first, 6.24% for the second. With 723 euros per month, you can rent 54m² in Rouen, 43m² in Lille and Nantes, and only 25m² in Bordeaux. But as usual, it is Paris that stands out: here, a sum of 723 euros will allow you to rent a studioette of 15m² maximum. The average rent in the capital is… 38.7 euros per square meter. more than double the national average. And if you’re wondering which city has the lowest rent, you can consider moving to Saint-Étienne, where the average rent is 10 euros per square meter. Just behind is Nîmes with an average of 11 euros per m2, then Angers and Reims with 12 euros per m².
