Province of Taounate: here is where the construction site of the Sidi Abbou dam is

In the province of Taounate, construction of the Sidi Abbou dam – 61 meters high and covering an 893 hectare reservoir – is progressing rapidly. According to information from the platform MaaDialna.maaffiliated with the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the project is currently 84% complete. The teams are finalizing the concreting of the hydromechanical equipment, carrying out various injection operations and completing the access road downstream of the dam.

The duration of the work was reduced by 12 months compared to the initial schedule, as indicated by Zakaria Nyar, project manager. “We hope to finalize the dam in early August 2025, instead of August 2026“, he specified in a declaration for Le360.

With a total cost of 1.2 billion dirhams, this large-scale hydraulic structure will strengthen the agricultural perimeter downstream, covering 4,000 hectares in the communes of Ras El Oued and Sidi Mohamed Ben Lahcen. It will also ensure the supply of drinking water to the province of Taounate and protect downstream areas against flooding linked to floods in the Lbene wadi, in the commune of Aïn Maâtouf.

The construction site of the Sidi Abbou dam is expected to generate nearly 360 days of work, thus contributing to local economic dynamics. Once operational, the structure will also offer new employment opportunities linked in particular to water management and the development of irrigated agriculture around the reservoir.
