In the Moulay Rachid district of Casablanca, the exasperation of the residents reached its peak. Between the carts that invade the streets, the omnipresent street vendors and the increasing unsanitary conditions, daily life becomes unbearable for residents. Many are even considering moving to escape this disorder that disrupts their peace.

Local authorities, aware of the scale of the problem, have developed an emergency plan aimed at building model markets to relocate these traders. “We have identified five sites in the Moulay Rachid district, including state land on Avenue Fqih Mohamed Essamadi, to put an end to this chaotic situation,” a manager told the Al3omk site. This project will be submitted for approval during the ordinary session of the municipal council, marking a first step towards a lasting solution.

However, challenges remain numerous. If the State has made certain land available, the expropriation of private property to build new markets is much more complex. An official specifies: “The release of occupied public space is the responsibility of local authorities, not the municipality. »

Residents are demanding concrete and rapid action. They call on public authorities to take their responsibilities to restore order in their neighborhood and offer a viable alternative to street vendors. Anger is brewing, but hope for change is beginning to appear with these initiatives in the making.
