A snowmobile accident in Maliotenam causes the SPUM to react regarding the wearing of helmets

SPUM police officers are also involved in prevention for the safety of the Innus of Uashat mak Maliotenam.

Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam Public Security is stepping up prevention following an accident that could have had a tragic end involving a snowmobile and three young girls from the Innu community. A young woman injured in the head was not wearing a protective helmet, authorities deplore.

SPUM police officers, ambulance crews and firefighters from Sept-Îles intervened on the evening of January 7 on a snowmobile trail near Maliotenam.

One of the young girls involved in the accident suffered a significant head injury, despite the slow speed at which the snowmobile was traveling. Unfortunately, the young woman was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident.

The SPUM wants to raise awareness among community members of the importance of wearing protective helmets when using all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) or snowmobiles. The Innu police force also emphasizes the importance of traveling at reasonable speeds and respecting the signs in force. He invites parents to be proactive by setting an example.
