DECRYPTION – A non-censorship pact could be sealed before the general policy speech, at the cost of significant budgetary concessions. But discussions could stumble on pensions.

Warning, twist. After almost burying any non-censorship agreement on Christmas Eve, devoting the new Bayrou government to criticism, the socialists have today never been so close to making a pact with the Prime Minister on budgetary texts. Negotiations have been in full swing since a meeting at the Ministry of the Economy on Monday, at the dawn of a week presented by both sides as decisive. The issue is simple: François Bayrou and his ministers are seeking to curry favor with the left before the general policy declaration next Tuesday and the subsequent vote on a motion of censure.
